BTS 2025 Service Subsidy Budget IDR 177 Billion, Enough For 8 Cities

For your information, the BTS service is an urban transportation service with a service purchase scheme. The Ministry of Transportation has launched this service since 2020, the goal is to accommodate the needs of urban public transportation modes according to the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) set.

Director of Road Transportation, Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi explained that the reduction in BTS budget also did not escape the Ministry of Transportation's budget cuts in 2025.

"With this reduction of almost a third, we have to think realisticly, which ones will be financed, which ones are high regional commitments, and which ones need to be supported further. Which ones are continued or not," he said in a media briefing, at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 14.

Ernita said the city receiving BTS program subsidies this year has decreased. He said that out of 11 cities in 2024, now only 8 cities are this year. The details are Bandung, Surakarta, Banyumas, Balikpapan, Surabaya, Makassar, Pontianak, and Manado.

The purpose of providing urban subsidy transportation is first stimulus, secondly increasing interest in the use of public transportation, thirdly facilitating the mobility of urban transportation communities. If there is no subsidy, it is to use public transportation, the cost will be more expensive," he said.

According to Ernita, this program has far-reaching benefits, especially to cover economic losses caused by congestion reaching Rp77 trillion per year.

"Public transportation sharing capital, that's in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, it's above 50 percent. Based on the data we got, in Jakarta, Bandung, and other big cities, public transportation share capital is still less than 20 percent," he explained.
