THE Egyptian capital, Cairo, is scheduled to host a seven-party meeting on Saturday to discuss the development of the situation in Gaza after the ceasefire and efforts to support the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

According to Egypt's official news agency, the meeting will be attended by foreign ministers from Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, and Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmad Aboul-Gheit, are also scheduled to attend.

Prior to the main meeting, Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, will hold a bilateral meeting with Jordan's Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi. The two will then hold an additional meeting attended by al-Sheikh, as reported by the Egyptian national broadcaster.

Jordanian state-owned television station Al-Mamlaka reported that the meeting will discuss regional developments, particularly efforts to stabilize the ceasefire in Gaza.

Discussions will also include ways to ensure smoothness and sustainability of humanitarian aid distribution across the Gaza Strip, as well as the importance of supporting UNRWA in order to carry out its mandate under the auspices of the United Nations.

Earlier, on Thursday, the Israeli government officially imposed a ban on UNRWA activities in occupied East Jerusalem, forcing the agency to vacate its facilities in the city.

Israel has ordered UNRWA to shut down its entire operations in East Jerusalem on Thursday, in accordance with instructions delivered by a letter from Israel's permanent representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on January 24.

On January 19, the ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement between Hamas and Israel came into force for 42 days. During that period, negotiations will continue for the next stages of the deal. The agreement was mediated by Egypt and Qatar with support from the United States.

Israel's genocide war has killed more than 47,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 111,000 people since October 7, 2023.

Israel's attacks on Gaza also left more than 11,000 people missing, as well as the massive devastation and humanitarian crisis that has claimed the lives of many elderly and children, making it one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
