JAKARTA - Google continues to improve its security by blocking 2.36 million malicious apps from the Google Play Store by 2024. In addition, Google has also blocked 158,000 developer accounts indicated to be spreading malware and spyware.

Reporting from Gizchina, Google recorded a surge in the number of malicious applications that have been prevented from entering the Play Store in recent years. Previously in 2023, 2.28 million applications were blocked, and in 2022 1.5 million applications were blocked.

For the number of blocked developer accounts, previously in 2023, 333,000 accounts were blocked. Meanwhile, in 2022 173,000 accounts were blocked.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is the key to Google's success in detecting and blocking malicious applications.

AI helps in 92% of the review process, allows companies to detect suspicious patterns more quickly, analyze app permissions automatically, and remove malicious apps before harming users.

Additionally, Google blocks 1.3 million apps seeking excessive permission by 2024, an important step in protecting user privacy and data.

Although Google has tightened its security, malicious apps can still log into Android devices via third-party websites, chat messages and emails, as well as unofficial forums and applications.

To protect the device from malicious apps, users are advised to enable Google Play Protect to detect malware, check the number of user downloads and reviews before installing the app, and avoid applications from unofficial sources.
