Former Real Madrid Captain Will Continue Career In The Mexican League

JAKARTA - Former Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, underwent a medical examination at Madrid on Monday, February 3, 2025, before completing his move to the League MX (Mexico League) club, CF Monterrey.

The 38-year-old defender signed a precontract agreement on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after Monterrey executives went to Spain to complete the one-year contract details until December 2025.

Ramos has been a free agent since leaving Sevilla at the end of last season.

The former World Cup and Euro winner with the Spanish National Team will go to Mexico later this week.

Ramos is reportedly close to joining Fenerbahce for a reunion with his former manager at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho, in recent weeks. However, the desired deal did not materialize.

Mourinho coached Ramos at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 despite their volatile relationship.

The Turkish giant was the team that showed the most interest in Ramos, among interested clubs, before he finally opted for Monterrey.

"I don't add much about Sergio. (On Sunday) club officials went to Madrid to do the things that needed for Sergio to come."

"His medical examination and work visa will be carried out in Madrid so he can arrive as soon as possible."

"Next week we will hold a presentation of all the players who have arrived, including Sergio. That would be great," said Monterrey coach Martin Demichelis, last weekend.

Ramos spent 16 years at Real Madrid -- after entering the Sevilla academy -- captained the club and won four Champions League titles and five La Liga trophies.

He left Los Blancos on a free transfer in 2021 and spent two seasons with PSG, before returning to Sevilla for the 2023/2024 season.

Since leaving Sevilla in June 2024, he has frequently posted updates on social media showing that he continues to maintain his fitness as he looks for a new club.
