Gaet Teddy Adhitya, Sezairi Releases An Indonesian Song Titled Kata

JAKARTA - Sezairi, a singer and songwriter from Singapore released the song Cata with Indonesian lyrics. This is one of the explorations and actualizations in his identity search.

Previously, he had released English songs, including the 'It's You' mega hit which managed to gain more than 200 million views on streaming platforms and more than 140 million viewers on YouTube. For Sezai, this release brings a new experience.

"For me, writing this Indonesian song is something new. There is a feeling I should be a part of it. Also my feelings are again finding my lost cultural identity. In the context of something good," he said in an official statement quoting ANTARA, Thursday, January 23.

Sezairi has Indonesian blood where his mother's family comes from Pekalongan, Central Java, while his father's family comes from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. This makes Sezai see Indonesia with all its cultural wealth, including language, is an inseparable part of him.

The word is one of several Indonesian-language songs in the upcoming album. Broadly speaking, this song tells the story of a complex relationship, which makes us reach the point where so many things are in the head, but none can be spoken in word.

"This song tells the story of someone who is really tired of everything, who can no longer even express the word to his loved ones, can't explain what he feels because everything is very sad," said Sezairi.

Sezairi took Teddy Adhitya as a collaborator in writing songs. Choosing Teddy as a partner in writing songs is not without reason, both of them have been friends and have been involved in music projects together.

I took Teddy to Singapore, in August 2024. During one week we wrote several songs together. I really wanted to collaborate with Teddy because I really, really, really like the writing style of the song. I think he is one of the most underrated songwriters," he said.

Sezairi explained that the inspiration for music in this single is Indo-pop R&B music such as Maliq & D Essentials, Soulvibe, Barry Likumahuwa Project, which he enjoyed while growing up.

"I was inspired by the Maliq & D Essentials bassline and because I was the producer for my own song, I included elements of Indonesian pop songs that have inspired me and I realized the Indonesian songs that I have listened to so far are extraordinary," he said.

The song Kata can be heard on various music streaming platforms starting January 24, 2025.
