JAKARTA - Meeting someone who is a match on the plane is not just a fictitious story. A study reveals that 1 in 50 people meet their soul mate when boarding the plane.

The study was conducted by HSBC international bank, by conducting an email interview with 2,150 people from 141 countries about the potential for a sweet meeting on an airplane. 43 of them said they met their partner while traveling by plane.

Quoting from People, on February 4, 2025, the study aims to provide insight into 11.9 million people traveling by plane every day. During the average flight, it was found that two couples met and fell in love with each other.

In addition, 47 percent of airplane passengers admit to starting conversations with foreigners sitting next to them. 12 percent of passengers say they have formed lasting friendships with fellow passengers, and 13 percent are in strong business relationships.

However, traveling by plane is not always about sweet experiences such as meeting a mate. There are also passengers who experience unpleasant things while on the plane.

HSBC surveyed an additional 5,000 people from Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Britain, regarding what made their plane travel annoying. As many as 65 percent said the children kicking the chairs were the most annoying.

Another thing that makes you feel uncomfortable is to hear the children screaming or crying. Then about taking your back and people who were too drunk when they got on the plane.
