Competing With 12 Titles, The Film Gowok Kamasutra Java Premieres First At The 2025 IFFR Competition

JAKARTA - Hanung Bramantyo's latest film, Gowok Kamasutra Jawa has started international screenings to compete at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in the Big Screen Competition category which will be held on January 30, February 9, 2025.

Producer Raam Punjabi and director Hanung Bramantyo expressed their satisfaction that their latest film could compete in the big category of international festivals.

We are very proud and grateful that Gowok Kamasutra Java was chosen to compete in the Big Screen Competition at the 2025 International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). This proves that local stories with strong cultural wealth can be appreciated on the international stage," said Producer Raam Punjabi.

"I thought that maybe, this is just an official selection but when I found out Gowok had the opportunity to compete, of course this was a matter of pride. I don't know what to say other than to be grateful and grateful," said Hanung Bramantyo.

Hanung feels that the film Gowok can highlight culture and the environment with narratives that can be universally interesting, especially international spectators. Gowok's premiere could be a good start to the spread of this film.

"This Gowok story is indeed very sexy. I think it's not only in the eyes of the Indonesian people but also universally. Maybe, in Indonesia, a theme like this will become controversial but I'm sure when abroad this theme becomes a very sexy theme like the film God Allows Me To Do Sin," he explained.

This film received a four-time broadcast schedule starting from February 2, February 3, February 5, and February 6.

The film Gowok Kamasutra Jawa with a 1955 background tells the story of a woman who works as a teacher who teaches sexual skills for prospective grooms who want to get married. He taught the prospective groom how to satisfy his wife in bed.

Through ancient ancient books inherited from their ancestors such as Centhini, Nitimani, Wulangreh, Gowok tried to teach men how to get their rights to be loved wholeheartedly, appreciated, beautiful, even though they were only in bed. After the 65th incident, the Gowok profession was removed because it was considered a disguised prostitution practice. Now its existence remains a legend.

On the other hand, MVP Pictures as the production house has not announced when the film Gowok will hit Indonesian cinemas.
