Erick Thohir Alludes To The Establishment Of The Danantara In Discussion Of The BUMN Bill

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir alluded to the establishment of the Anagata Nusantara Resources Investment Management Agency or BP Danaantara in discussing changes to the BUMN draft law (RUU).

Initially, Erick emphasized that the latest regulatory basis for state-owned companies was very important. He said one part of the importance is strengthening the role and performance of SOEs.

Therefore, said Erick, the government agreed with the DPR RI to update the law on BUMN which was last issued in 2003.

"In principle, the government agrees with the DPR RI regarding the need and urgency of the preparation of the BUMN Bill," Erick said in a Working Meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, Parliament Complex, in Jakarta, Thursday, January 23.

Furthermore, Erick said strengthening the role of SOEs is an important thing to do. Both from the management of entities, as well as governance within state companies.

"Optimizing the role and contribution of SOEs is crucial to strengthen the management of SOEs, both from the aspect of the SOE management entity and from the aspect of SOEs governance itself," he said.

Erick said the process of discussing the BUMN Bill was also inseparable from the government's plan to form BP Danantara.

"And also for the formation of a new body, namely the Anagata Nusantara (Dantara) Resources Investment Management Agency," he said.

Previously, Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a working meeting with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir to discuss the preparation of the Draft Law (RUU) on the Third Amendment to Law Number 19 of 2003 concerning SOEs.

From 2020 to 2024, the BUMN Bill is included in the annual national legislation program (prolegnas). Now, the BUMN Bill is again included in the 2025 prolegnas because it is considered to have a fundamental role in the national economy.

Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives, Anggia Ermarini, explained that the urgency of this change was based on the strategic role of SOEs in managing national resources in accordance with Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.

"Production branches that are important for the country and the natural wealth contained in them must be managed as much as possible for the prosperity of the people. SOEs are an extension of the state's hand to carry out this vital function," said Anggia.
