Inauguration Of 290 Regional Heads Resulting From The 2024 Pilkada Scheduled In Jakarta

JAKARTA Commission II of the DPR has agreed to fully hand over the schedule for the inauguration of regional heads as a result of the 2024 Pilkada to the government, especially the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian. The inauguration of 290 regional heads from the 2024 regional elections is planned to be carried out in Jakarta

This decision was taken in order to provide flexibility in dealing with various political and legal dynamics that may occur.

"On the basis of caution and flexibility for various dynamics in the future, Commission II of the DPR has fully handed over the inauguration schedule to the government through the Minister of Home Affairs," said DPR Commission II Chairman Rifqinizamy Karsayuda after a working meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday 3 February.

Rifqi emphasized that the regional head who is not in dispute with the Constitutional Court (MK) and who has received the Constitutional Court's dismissal decision on February 4-5, 2025 will be sworn in in February 2025 in Jakarta.

According to Rifqi, the government has set the inauguration on February 20, 2025 as the official date.

"God willing, the inauguration will be held on February 20, 2025 in Jakarta. In accordance with the law, before there was a presidential and presidential regulation that stipulated IKN Nusantara as the definitive capital city, Jakarta was still carrying out its role as the capital city," he explained.

Previously, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian revealed that President Prabowo Subianto had chosen February 20 as the day of his inauguration. This event will inaugurate 290 regional heads whose regional elections are not disputed in the Constitutional Court.

"I reported to the President, and he chose Thursday, February 20," Tito said in a working meeting with Commission II of the DPR.

Although the exact location is still under discussion, Tito emphasized that the inauguration will still take place in the nation's capital, which is currently still Jakarta, because IKN Nusantara has not officially operated as the capital city.

"According to the law, the transfer of the capital city to IKN must be determined through the Presidential Decree. As long as the Presidential Decree is not yet operational, the nation's capital remains in Jakarta, even though its status has changed to a Special Region for Jakarta," added Tito.

The government initially proposed three option date of inauguration to President Prabowo, namely 18, 19, and February 20, 2025. However, after considering the dismissal decision of the Constitutional Court which was submitted to February 4-5, the President finally chose February 20, 2025 as the official inauguration date.

"We initially proposed three dates, namely 18, 19, and February 20. After I reported it to the President, he chose February 20," Tito concluded.

This decision ensures that the inauguration of regional heads as a result of the 2024 Pilkada can run smoothly and according to the rules, while waiting for certainty regarding the transfer of the capital city to IKN Nusantara.
