JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng) reported that six villages in this province were flooded due to high rainfall intensity.

"Based on the reports we received, floods occurred in Toli-Toli, Buol and Parigi Moutong Regencies," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Central Sulawesi BPBD Andy Sembiring in Palu City, Sunday, February 2, as reported by Antara.

He explained that flooding occurred in Ogomatanang Village, Lampasio District, Kayulompoa Village, Kongkomos, Silondou, Basidondo District in Toli-Toli Regency, Taat Village, Badung District, Buol Regency, and Sausu Peore Village, Sausu District, Parigi Moutong Regency.

Andy said the flood incident in Toli-Toli Regency was due to high rainfall which caused river water to overflow inundated residential areas.

Meanwhile, he said, tidal flooding occurred in Buol and Parigi Moutong Regencies due to sea water and high tides that threatened the houses of residents on the coast.

According to him, his party is still coordinating with the local district BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC), which is currently coordinating with village officials and conducting assessments.

Based on the provisional assessment, 10 houses and about 105 hectares of plantation areas were affected by flooding in Ogomatangan Village. Meanwhile, two housing units were damaged, one bridge was broken, one unit of an electric pole collapsed in Kayulompoa Village, and 350 families (KK) were affected in Silonduro Village, and Kongkomos Village is still being collected.

"As many as 22 families and 22 houses were affected by flooding in Taat Village, Buol. Four families fled to their families' homes," he said.

Meanwhile, as many as 100 housing units and 100 families were affected by tidal flooding in Sausu Peore Village in Parigi Moutong Regency.

He said the urgent needs of affected residents were basic necessities, river normalization and the construction of residential embankments from coastal abrasion.
