JAKARTA - Global leaders in digital transformation for energy management and automation, reiterated their commitment to electricity safety in Indonesia by collaborating with the Indonesian Electricity and Mechanical Contractors Association (AKLI) which was inaugurated through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Schneider Electric National Partner Meeting in early 2025 in Jakarta which was also attended and witnessed by Representatives from the Directorate General of Electricity from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
This collaboration aims to improve the skills and knowledge of AKLI members in the field of electricity and support and promote electricity and safety programs in Indonesia, particularly related to the use of the Remaining Current Protection Device (GPAS) which includes the Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) and the Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent Protection (RCBO) according to the General Requirements for the 2020 Electricity Installation (PUIL) and is required in the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 7 of 2021. As part of this partnership, Schneider Electric and AKLI will hold training and workshop installation of GPAS for electrical contractors.
GPAS functions to detect unbalanced electricity, which can occur when there is a leakage of the current, thus automatically cutting off the electricity before causing danger. By installing GPAS, the potential for fatal accidents such as fires and electric shocks can be minimized, making it an important tool in improving electricity safety.
In addition, this collaboration also includes technical training for electrical technicians with basic skills such as electrical installations and electrical security, as well as solving electrical problems. This skill is considered needed by AKLI members to better understand safety procedures when working with electricity and utilize efficient technology to support safer and more sustainable electrical practices.
Martin Setiawan, Cluster President of Indonesia & Timor Leste, Schneider Electric, said, "Security and electricity security are our top priority at Schneider Electric. Through this collaboration, we want to ensure that professionals have access to the latest training and technology to support safer, more efficient, and sustainable electrical practices. GPAS adoption is an important step in improving the safety and security of electrical installations, both in residential and commercial environments. We believe that collaboration with AKLI and government support will create a more secure and reliable electricity ecosystem for the people of Indonesia.
Puji Muhardi, General Chairperson of the AKLI Central Board, added, "This partnership is an important milestone in strengthening the technical competence of Electric Contractors in Indonesia and compliance with the safety of Electricity Installation, as well as AKLI is committed to continuing to support initiatives that not only increase safety standards, but also provide direct benefits for the community. We believe that with the support of Schneider Electric and the government, we can create a safer environment and support the sustainability of the electricity sector in Indonesia."
In the future, both parties will continue to be committed to strengthening Indonesia's electricity ecosystem by prioritizing safety, supporting government regulations, and creating a safer and more sustainable future for Indonesia.
Ir. Hanat Hamidi, M.Si, Standardization Coordinator, Directorate General of Electricity, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), said, "SNI-based products are one of the main pillars of electrical safety to create a safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly electricity infrastructure. The government continues to strengthen regulations and expand the socialization of the application of electricity, including the use of protection equipment such as GPAS as part of a commitment to reduce the risk of electric shocks and fires due to electricity.
With more than 60-70% of fire cases in DKI Jakarta caused by electricity problems[1], this collaboration is here as a strategic effort to improve electricity safety. This effort is also in line with the government's plan to measure the flow of sponsors in 80 locations, including 30 markets and 47 public facilities as well as government offices, to strengthen regulation and socialization of GPAS throughout Indonesia.
