JAKARTA - Police arrested a man who was involved in the case of a Chinese actor who was cheated on an offer to shoot a film in Thailand but instead traded it to Myanmar.

A joint team assisted by Thai law enforcement authorities arrested the suspect in this fraud case on Saturday, January 25 last weekend.

Reported by Reuters on Monday, January 27, China's Ministry of Public Security explained that the suspect surnamed Yan had been brought back to China.

Wang Xing, a 31-year-old Chinese actor, traveled to Thailand earlier this month after receiving an offer to play in a film set in Thailand.

When Wang arrived in Bangkok, he was kidnapped and taken to an online fraud center. Wang became one of the victims of hundreds of thousands of people who according to the United Nations were trapped and working for a criminal network that ran fake telecommunications operations.

Wang's case drew national attention after his girlfriend started a social media campaign about his condition.

Wang was later released by Thai police who found him in Myanmar.

The ministry said police would step up their efforts to crack down on fraud centers, deepen international law enforcement cooperation, and coordinate with countries involved to detain criminals and save Chinese citizens.
