JAKARTA Two NASA astronauts who are part of the Expedition 72 crew will conduct spacewalks or activities in space. This important activity will be held on Thursday, January 16.

Astronauts selected for the spacewalk are Nick Hague as aviation technician and Suni Williams as commander. This is the first spacewalk in 2025 and as usual, NASA will broadcast its activities online.

At 20.00 WIB, Hague and Williams will activate their spacesuit batteries to internal power to prepare for the mission. After that, both of them will exit Quest's airspace on the International Space Station (ISS).

This work is not easy because Hague and Williams will be in a vacuum for six and a half hours. While outside the ISS, they will repair a variety of astrophysical equipment, including the NICER X-ray telescope and the Magnetic Spectrometer Alfa.

"The couple on Monday (January 13) arranged and configured the space travel equipment inside Quest as NASA's Aviation Technician Butch Wilmore charges and installs lithium-ion batteries," NASA explained on its official website.

Prior to spacewalks, Hague and Williams will spend their time improving spacecraft safety and supporting crews for long-term missions. Like Hague for example, the flight technician will open the Combustion Integrated Rack.

In addition, Hague will also exchange material samples to observe how the material can catch fire in conditions without gravitas. Unlike Williams, the astronaut will install new hardware to supply water to the Advanced Plant Habitat.

This water supply is done to conduct a space botanical study. Williams will observe how different levels of water can affect plant growth, especially in providing food for expedition crews in space.
