Aryna Sabalenka Becomes The Best Player Of The 2024 WTA

JAKARTA The Belarusian tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, has been named the WTA 2024 Player of the Year. This is the first time he has received the award.

The 26-year-old athlete successfully won two Grand Slam titles this year and secured world number one.

Sabalenka started this season by defending the Australian Open trophy in January 2024. He then lifted the US Open crown in September 2024.

It was the third Grand Slam title in his career journey. Sabalenka then successfully jumped over Iga Swiatek to rank the top in the world a month later.

In addition, he also successfully lifted the trophy from the tournaments in Cincinnati and Wuhan. As a result, he ended the 2024 season with four titles.

Turning to doubles, the Best Pair 2024 was awarded to Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. The achievement was obtained thanks to their success in winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Then, the United States player, Emma Navarro, was named the Most Developing Player of the season.

Navarro managed to break through the top 10 in September 2024 after previously he was ranked 38th at the end of 2023.

This achievement was achieved after he won his first title in Hobart and appeared in six semifinals. One of them is the US Open which took place at Flushing Meadows.

Next in the 2024 Newcomer category belongs to New Zealand player Lulu Sun. He was recorded at the quarter-finals at Wimbledon as a qualifying player.

The trip helped him move up to 40th in the world after being outside the top 200 in January 2024.

Former world number two Paula Badosa, who ended the 2023 season earlier due to back problems and had raised doubts about her future, was named Comeback Player of the Year.

The Spaniard won his Washington title and matched his best Grand Slam appearance by reaching the US Open quarter-finals to end this year in 12th place.
