Kaja Kallas: If The United States And European Unions During The Trade War, China Laughs

JAKARTA - EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc was preparing for a possible trade war with the United States, but that condition was considered only to benefit China.

Kallas told reporters when he arrived at an informal meeting of the block in Brussels, Belgium on Monday.

"We listened carefully to those words and, of course, we are preparing ourselves. But what is clear is that there are no winners in the trade war," Kallas explained, launching TASS on February 3.

"If the EU and the United States start a trade war, then those who laugh are China," he said.

He further explained that the implementation of tariffs on European goods by the US would lead to higher prices and other negative consequences for both parties.

In addition, Estonia's 19th Prime Minister stressed that such a decision would have a negative impact on employment.

"We are very interrelated. We need America and America as well as we need," he said.

On February 2, US President Donald Trump said the United States was determined to impose additional import duties on imports from the European Union.

According to him, this will happen "soon." He complained that EU member countries did not buy products from the Uncle Sam's automotive and agricultural industries.
