Regional Head Inauguration Canceled February 6, Wait For MK Dismissal Decision

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian revealed that the inauguration of the non-dispute regional head at the Constitutional Court (MK) was canceled on February 6, 2025.

"The inauguration (of the regional head) who is non-dispute at the Constitutional Court, 296, which on February 6 will be combined with the results of the dissal decision," Tito said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 31.

He explained that the decision to cancel the inauguration was taken in response to the Constitutional Court's interim decision.

The Constitutional Court plans to read out the dissal decision for 310 disputes over the results of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections on February 4 and 5, 2025.

He also said that the inauguration of the non-dispute regional head would be combined with the results of the Constitutional Court's dismissal decision which had been reported to President Prabowo Subianto.

"I convey and report to the President, there is an interim decision, which allows the second stage of simultaneous inauguration, which after a dissal decision, is not too far away," he said.

Tito explained that Prabowo gave directions so that the inauguration of regional heads was made efficiently.

The government also agreed to unite non-dispute regional heads and dissal results.

"Well, he has the principle that if the distance is not too far for efficiency, it's better to just put it together. Between the non-dispute and the dismissal," explained Tito.

The Minister of Home Affairs admitted that his party could not determine when the regional head who was canceled to be sworn in would be sworn in.

"Regarding the date, I will tell you again after we coordinate with the KPU, with Bawaslu, with the Constitutional Court, then we will want to know how long it will take, how long the KPU will last, how long the Constitutional Court can upload (the results of the dismissal decision)," he said.

According to him, the decision is still waiting for the follow-up process in the form of determining the KPU which is based on the results of dismissal.

After that, the KPU in each region will submit a determination to the DPRD to be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
