JAKARTA - Minister of Human Rights (HAM) Natalius Pigai asked ASN to follow the Marriage Law regarding polygamy following the issuance of Governor Regulation (Pergub) of the Governor of Jakarta Number 2 of 2025 concerning Procedures for the Provision of Marriage and Divorce Permits which became a polemic.

"ASN just follow the laws and regulations. Therefore, anyone, just follow what is written according to the law," said Natalius Pigai, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 21.

In the Marriage Law, Article 3 paragraph 2 stipulates that the court can give permission to a husband to marry more than one wife if desired by the parties concerned.

Previously, Acting Governor of Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi officially issued Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 2 of 2025 concerning Procedures for Provision of Marriage and Divorce Permits.

The governor's regulation was issued on January 6, 2025, and set a permit mechanism for ASNs who wish to have more than one wife.

In this regulation, male ASN who wish to be polygamous are required to obtain permission from the authorized official before holding the marriage. This provision is contained in Article 4 paragraph 1.

If an ASN violates the rule and marriages without a permit, a severe disciplinary punishment will be imposed, as stipulated in the applicable laws and regulations.
