Will The Jakarta ASN Governor's Regulation Can Polygamy Be Revoked? Pramono Anung: It's Very Clear

The elected Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung confirmed the possibility that he would revoke the governor's regulation (pergub) which regulates Jakarta ASN to be polygamous.

Pramono had previously revealed that he was strongly opposed to polygamy. Pramono also admitted that he would fire ASN who wanted to be polygamous after serving as Governor of DKI Jakarta.

"Anyway, my statement about it is already a welo-welo meeting, it's very clear," said Pramono at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, Sunday, February 2.

Yesterday, Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government (ASN) state civil apparatus (ASN) should not think about polygamousism during his leadership. As a monogamist, he did not want his subordinates to have more than one partner.

"I am a monogamous adherent and for me, ASN in Jakarta, never think about getting polygamy in my era," said Pramono while attending the handover of the honorary title from the Betawi Council in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Saturday, February 1.

Pramono said he deliberately conveyed this attitude before being inaugurated. "The others are willing to do polygamy. But not ASN," he said.

While on a separate occasion, Pramono ensured that this ban would take effect when he took office. Anyone who violates is preparing to be fired.

"Yes, it is not allowed. If it is not allowed to be violated, it will be fired," he said.

The rules that allow Jakarta ASN to be polygamous with a number of conditions are contained in Gubernatorial Regulation Number 2 of 2025. This governor's regulation was in the public spotlight.

In Article 4 paragraph (1), it is stated that male ASN employees who will have more than one wife are required to obtain permission from an authorized official before marriage.

"ASN employees who do not carry out their obligation to obtain a permit from an authorized official before holding a marriage as referred to in paragraph (1) are sentenced to one type of severe disciplinary punishment in accordance with the provisions of the legislation," said Article 4 paragraph (2).

Still in the governor's regulation, it is outlined that more than one wife's permit can be given to male ASN if it meets the requirements. These requirements include that wives cannot carry out their obligations, wives get body defects or diseases that cannot be cured, wives cannot give birth to offspring after 10 years of marriage, get the consent of wives or wives in writing, have sufficient income to finance their wives and children, be able to act fairly towards their wives and children, do not interfere with official duties; and have court decisions regarding more wife's permits than one.

Meanwhile, more than one wife's permit cannot be granted if it is contrary to the teachings/religious regulations held by the ASN employee concerned, does not meet the requirements, contrary to the provisions of the laws and regulations, the reasons put forward are contrary to common sense, and/or interfere with the implementation of official duties.
