JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto received French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu at his residence, to celebrate 75 years of strong bilateral relations between Indonesia and France.

Minister Lecornu uploaded the moment of the meeting through the X platform through his official account @SebLecornu with a photo in which President Prabowo received a black fighter pilot (fighter) helmet with the name Prabowo Subianto listed on the back of the helmet.

"We have a strong bilateral relationship with Indonesia, which in 2025 we celebrate 75 years of this relationship," Lecornu wrote in the photo caption quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 31.

Lecornu explained that his meeting with President Prabowo discussed relations and defense cooperation between the two countries.

In addition, he also revealed that the meeting with Prabowo was not the first time, considering that previously Prabowo also held the same position, namely the Minister of Defense for the 2019-2024 period.

"It's nice to share the opportunity to discuss together the geostrategic challenges and bilateral defense relations, although we've met several times in Paris and Indonesia in previous roles as Minister of Defense," Lecornu wrote.

Based on an official statement from the Presidential Media Team Prabowo, Indonesia-France bilateral relations in the defense sector include cooperation in the procurement of defense equipment, technology transfer, and the development of the defense industry.

Several Indonesian-France cooperations include signing the Defense Cooperation Agreement in 2020, purchasing Rafale fighter aircraft, to cooperation in intelligence, military training, and eradicating terrorism.

Before meeting with President Prabowo, Minister Lecornu also met with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at the Ministry of Defense, Jakarta on Friday morning.
