In The Aftermath Of The Shooting Of Five PMIs, The Malaysian Government Was Asked To Give Compensation To The Victims

JAKARTA - Hundreds of people from Garuda Sakti Satu (GARDA) held a demonstration in front of the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta. They demanded that the Malaysian government be responsible for the shooting incident of five Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Malaysia by the Malaysian Maritime Authority on Friday last week.

Secretary General of the GARDA One DPP, Solihin Pure, confirmed that this incident was not the first. Based on Migrant Care data, in the last 25 years at least 75 Indonesian citizens have been victims of violence by Malaysian officials.

"Essentially, I want to emphasize that in the last 25 years based on Migrant Care data from 2005 to 2025, today's incident is not the first time, but it has been many times," said Solihin, Friday, January 31.

GARDA Satu juga meminta pemerintah Malaysia untuk meminta maaf secara resmi kepada rakyat Indonesia serta memberikan santunan kepada keluarga korban, khususnya kepada Tengung Basri, salah satu korban penembakan.

"In fact, we strongly threaten the Malaysian government to immediately apologize to all Indonesian people. And at the same time ask the Malaysian government through the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta to give encouragement, provide assistance, especially to Basri and his family as a sign of grief. That is our hope," he said.

In the action, representatives of the Malaysian Embassy, Jumadi, accepted GARDA One's statement of attitude and promised to convey it to the Malaysian government. However, Solihin emphasized that his party would hold further action with a larger number of masses if their demands were not immediately responded to.

"Of course. If we don't get arrested within 1x24 hours, we will come down with greater strength to surround the Malaysian government in Jakarta," he said.

The masses also urged the Indonesian government to consider stopping the export of strategic commodities to Malaysia, including gas. They hope that President Prabowo Subianto will immediately take firm steps in responding to this incident.
