JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump stressed that Jordan and Egypt would support a proposal to relocate Palestinians in Gaza, although the two countries rejected the move.

"They will. They will. They will. They will do it, okay? We do a lot for them, and they will," President Trump said during a photo session in the Oval Room.

Earlier, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah rejected any form of forced transfer of Palestinians, days after US President Donald Trump suggested that Arab countries accept Palestinians from the war-torn Gaza Strip.

"Regarding what is said about the transfer of Palestinians, it will never be tolerated or allowed because of its impact on Egypt's national security," President El-Sisi told a news conference on Wednesday, quoted by Al Jazeera.

"Deportation or transfer of Palestinians is an injustice we cannot do," he stressed.

Moments later, Jordanian King Abdullah II said Palestinians should stay on their land.

The king stressed during a meeting in Brussels, " Jordan's firm position on the need to keep Palestinians on their soil and guarantee their legitimate rights, in accordance with the two Israeli and Palestinian countries' solutions," the royal palace said in a statement.

It is known that nearly all of Gaza's 2.2 million population have fled their homes at least once, since Israel launched a war in the region in October 2023 in response to Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel.

After the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire took effect this month, Trump has touted plans to "clean up" the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents to Jordan and Egypt. He returned to that idea this week, calling for Palestinians to move to "safer locations" such as Egypt or Jordan.

The relocation of Gaza's population can be carried out "temporary, or can also be long-term", he said.

But the idea of relocating Palestinians has long been rejected by Palestinians and regional countries, who say it will undermine Palestinian state ideas and trigger instability in the Middle East.

Since the start of Israel's 15-month war in Gaza, Arab countries have repeatedly warned against any plans to push Palestinians into neighboring countries, saying such actions will remind Nakba in 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forcibly transferred during the fighting that occurred during the formation of the Israeli state.

Egypt and Jordan themselves have peace agreements with Israel and also support the formation of the Palestinian State in the occupied West Bank, Gaza, and east Jerusalem. They fear permanent relocation of Gaza's population could make the future of the Palestinian State more difficult to realize.

Egypt and Jordan are the main US allies in the Middle East and US aid recipients. US$1.3 billion US annual military aid to Egypt was exempted from freezing US funds for this week's global aid program.
